When to do your family photo session in Northern New Jersey
A lot of people opt for a fall session before holiday season. But I wanted to show what images actually look like depending on the season. It’s much easier and you might opt for other seasons.
SPRING - SUMMER (MAY - AUGUST)
Lush greenery, flowing summer dresses, and crisp, abundant light—summer sessions are all about warmth, vibrancy, and connection. With flowers in full bloom and golden light stretching into the evening, it’s the perfect season to relax and simply enjoy each other’s presence.
Summer is also an ideal time for family photo sessions, especially if you have little ones or older kids with busy fall schedules full of school and activities.
FALL (SEPTEMBER - NOVEMBER)
The warm brown and red tones of the landscape, paired with the golden glow of a soft sunset, create a stunning natural backdrop for portraits. These rich, earthy hues harmonize beautifully with neutral-colored outfits—think creams, tans, grays, and muted greens—to make your photos feel timeless and cohesive.
As the temperatures drop, it’s also the perfect time to layer up. Consider wearing Under Armour or thermal layers beneath your clothing, along with cozy vests, sweaters, and boots. Fall sessions can be a bit chilly and breezy. There’s a little more to plan for than during spring or summer sessions.
